محرم کی یکم تاریخ، سن ہجری کا 23 تھا
It was the first of Muharram in the 23rd year of Hijrah

اداسی سے نڈھال اس دن رسول اللہ کا طیبہ تھا
And the disposition of the Prophet (PBUH) was forlorn with sadness

فلک بھی اپنی بینائی پہ شرمندہ ہوا ہوگا
Even the sky would be ashamed at what it saw

یقینا سوچتا ہوگا کہ اس نے آج کیا دیکھا
It would have definitely wondered at what it had seen

ذرا اب دل کو تھامو اور سنو اس قصهِ غم کو
Now settle in and listen to this tragic narration

نہ ہرگز روک پاؤ گے یقینا آنکھ کے نم کو
You will certainly not be able to hold back your tears

عدی کے خانوادے کے جری بیٹے کا قصہ ہے
It is the story of the brave son of the Adi tribe

وہ جس سے دین مہکا ہے، یہ اس غنچے کا قصہ ہے
It is the story of that flower bud which endowed fragrance to the faith

وہ جس کو دیکھ کر شیطان بھی رستہ بدلتا تھا
He whose sight made the devil change his path

وہ جس کی اک نظر سے کفر کا ایواں دہلتا تھا
He whose gaze could make the assemblage of disbelievers tremble

عرب کے معتبر تھے معترف اس کی ذہانت کے
The wise men of Arabia admitted to his intelligence

صحابہ واری جاتے اس کے معیارِ عدالت کے
The Companions would sacrifice themselves at his justness

وہ اکتالیسویں نمبر پہ مردوں میں ہوا مسلم
He was the forty-first among men to become Muslim

اسی سے رعب سب کفار پر دیں کا ہوا قائم
Through him alone the disbelievers fell in awe of the faith

کئی فرمان اس کے بن گئے قرآن کا حصہ
Many of his messages became part of the Quran

نبیﷺ کے گھر بیاہی اس کی بیٹی، میری ماں حفصہ
To the Prophet (PBUH) was wedded his daughter, my mother Hafsa (RA)

وہی لاکھوں مربع میل کا حاکم بنا لوگو
He became ruler over land spread across hundred of thousands of miles

خلیفهِ دوم ہر مومن نے ہے دل سے کہا اس کو
Every believer has accepted him as the second Caliph by heart

رسول اللہﷺ نے فرمایا، نہیں ہے ، ہاں! اگر ہوتا
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘There isn’t, but surely if there were

جو میرے بعد کوئی بھی نبی تو وہ عمرؓ ہوتا
Any prophet after me, it would be Umar (RA)

شہادت کی بھی دی پیشین گوئی پیارے آقاﷺ نے
The beloved Master (PBUH) foretold his martyrdom

احد پر، جب وہاں بوبکر اور فاروق وعثماںؓ تھے
On Uhud, when Abu Bakr (RA) and Farooq (RA) and Usman (RA) were present

خلافت آپ کی قائم رہی دس سال تک ایسی
His Caliphate endured for ten years such that

عدالت خود نظام عدل پر بھی رشک کرتی تھی
The courts were envious of the system of justice

مگر ابلیس کی اولاد اپنا وار کر بیٹھی
But the child of Satan ultimately cast his wound

کہ جیسے سانپ کی وہ کاٹنے کی ضد نہیں جاتی
Just as a snake cannot resist the urge to bite

نمازِ فجر پڑھنے جب گئے فاروقؓ مسجد میں
When to offer the Fajr prayer Umar (RA) went to the mosque

ابولولو وہاں بیٹھا تھا چھپ کر جانے کس ضد میں
Abu Lulu was lying in hiding there for some unknown insubordination

وہ گھٹیا ذات اک محراب کے پیچھے سے آ نکلا
That vile person emerged from behind a mehrab

نکل کرعین دورانِ نماز اس نے کیا حملہ
And mounted his attack right in the middle of the prayer

کیے خنجر سے وار اس نے عمر فاروقؓ پر اس دم
He attacked Umar Farooq (RA) with a dagger

تو بہ نکلا وہاں خونِ عمرؓ کثرت سے پھر پیہم
So the blood flowed profusely and continuously

مدینے کے در و دیوار سے وحشت ٹپکتی تھی
Barbarity dripped from the walls of Madinah

وہ دن چھبیس ذی الحج تھا، ہر اک جانب اداسی تھی
It was the 26th of Zilhaj, and sadness was everywhere

تھا گھاؤ اتنا گہرا، آنتیں ان کی کٹ گئی تھیں سب
The wound was so deep, his insides were badly cut

دوائی کا اثر بھی کچھ نہ ہوتا عمر کو اب
No medication could have helped Umar (RA) then

تصور تو کرو کتنا کٹھن لمحہ تھا مسلم پر
Imagine what a difficult time it was for the Muslims

کہ آفت ان پہ منڈلانے لگی پھیلائے اپنے پر
Great misery was spreading itself around them

کیا پردہ، گراکر چل دیے فاروقؓ پھر چلمن
Just as a veiled Farooq (RA) began to depart

ادھر رو رو بھگائے چشمِ مسلم نے سبھی دامن
The Muslims wept until their tears drenched their clothes

عمرکے جانے سے ایسا خلا پیدا ہوا مصعبؔ
Such a void was left with the departure of Umar (RA), O Musab

یقیں جانو قیامت تک نہ ہرگز بھر سکے گا اب
Believe it that it will never be filled till the Day of Judgement
