01:32 Cost of living Portugal vs Albania

Our journey begins with a close examination of the cost of living in Albania versus Portugal, where Albania emerges as a compelling contender for expats. Albania boasts a significant advantage, with an average cost of living that is approximately 50% lower than its Portuguese counterpart. This substantial cost difference is reflected in various aspects of daily life, including grocery shopping, essential services, private healthcare, and transportation. Furthermore, navigating bureaucratic processes in Albania proves to be remarkably cost-effective, as various government fees associated with activities such as renewing residence permits and paying property taxes are significantly lower than those in Portugal.

So in terms of cost of living Albania is actually the obvious winner, no surprises here. It is hard to say to whom…

And we cannot talk about the cost of living without mentioning real estate, which is the next topic in our comparison.

02:34 Real Estate in Portugal vs Albania

Real estate prices in Portugal and Albania exhibit significant disparities. For instance, in Portugal, particularly in the capital city of Lisbon, the average rent price for a 1-bedroom apartment in the city center hovers around a substantial 1300 euros per month. In contrast, one can enjoy a comparable standard of living in Albania, particularly in Tirana, for approximately 450 euros per month.

In terms of real estate just as in cost of living in general it is an easy win for Albania.

04:00 Residence Permit Portugal Albania

Now let’s talk about one of the main topics that attracts viewers to this channel - getting a residence permit. And in terms of getting a residence permit, both countries are actually doing pretty well. Portugal certainly lost some of its advantages here, as it attracted huge waves of wealthy immigrants with its now semi-defunct golden visa program. Considering the situation as of today, both Albania and Portugal offer great residence permit options for citizens of countries outside the European Union. In the case of Portugal, it is currently the country in Western Europe with the best residence permit solutions for non-EU citizens.

The case of Albania is a little different, as the country itself is not in the European Union. However, getting a residence permit in Albania is quite easy for most citizens.

But all in all, Albania wins in terms of residence permits, as it is easier to get a residence permit in Albania than it is in Portugal. The reasons behind my opinion are in the following facts:

05:28 Taxes

In terms of taxes I believe you already know who is the winner here, I will even wait a few seconds for you to think about who has the advantage here…. And it is not Portugal.

06:46 Transport infrastructure

When it comes to transport infrastructure, Portugal and Albania offer contrasting experiences. While Albania boasts a fairly decent international airport in Tirana, making it relatively easy to access from anywhere in Europe, Portugal holds a distinct advantage

07:45 Healthcare

The last topic in our comparison today is healthcare. According to the health index score, Portugal is actually taking the lead when it comes to health care. Portugal is not among the top countries in Europe in terms of health care, which are mostly countries in Scandinavia.
