Is there an Ethereum Supply Squeeze Coming? [Eth 2.0 Price Prediction]

The Ethereum protocol has just gone through a major upgrade called EIP1559. The protocol is also scheduled to go through another dramatic change at the end of this year where it will switch from a proof of work model to secure the network to a proof of stake model. This change is commonly referred to as Eth 2.0

In this video I will unpack these changes and the impact they may have on the price of Ethereum’s token known as Ether.

I first came across this thesis a number of months ago when I read a report by an investor called Squish Chaos who believes that these two protocol changes could see the price of Ether go as high as $150K by January 2023.

Since the release of his report I see a growing buzz around the potential of Eth's price in the short-term and I even see the likes of Raoul Pal calling Eth the ‘Greatest Trade’. Raoul believes the current setup for Eth is better than March 2020 was for bitcoin. As a result he’s now overweight Eth in his portfolio.

Ethereum is a layer 1 protocol that you can build applications on. The well-known use-cases up to now have been De-Fi and most recently NFT’s. Ether then is the token used to transact on the Ethereum blockchain. So if you want to send a defi related token or mint an NFT you need to spend Ether to do this. It’s the currency for this flourishing eco-system that’s growing at an astounding pace.

Two massive protocol changes are underway for Ethereum that are expected to reduce the supply of Eth available to buy on exchanges by as much as 90%. If this plays out AND demand remains relatively constant, then this will generate a massive increase in the price of Ether. The real icing on the cake however, comes if demand continues to grow in tandem with the reduction in liquidity. If this plays out, Squish has calculated a price target for Ether of $150K by January 2023.
