The shutdown on Tuesday, called "A Day Without a Scooter," as well as a protest outside City Hall, was part of a joint campaign from scooter startups Bird and Lime. Santa Monica recently announced that it will award four contracts to two scooter and two e-bike operators. In an internal memo, Lyft and Uber-owned Jump came in first and second in the city's scoring of scooter and e-bike operators.
