Tesla is planning to create a new Giga Casting 2.0 using a massive 16000 ton Giga Press or larger. The goal is to be able to cast the entire underbody, including the current front and rear castings, as well as the structural battery pack into a single MASSIVE casting for the $25,000 mass market electric car. Elon Musk has pushed for larger and larger castings, however now Tesla faces challenges in moving to the next level, as they plan to use sand cores for rapid prototyping, which start to become unavailable with larger ultra high pressure Giga Presses. Tesla can instead shift to a slow injection method, but that could slow down production. At the same time, this new large Giga Casting 2.0 could conflict with Tesla's Unboxed Process which intends to break the vehicle into smaller modules, making them easier to work on.
