Gigafactory Texas on 10 March 2021! This is where the Cyber Truck and Model Y will be built!
A busy, very windy and overcast morning at Giga Texas this early morning (I went very early to try and avoid the really bad winds that were forecast later in the day). I tried to get a good ground-floor look inside the Body-in-White structure on the east to see what they were doing, and I also got a good look into the south and east sides of the paint shop building where a lot of activity and installation of equipment is well underway!
In this video we cover Part 1 of the battery cell area and its possible capacity and how it relates in size to the Kato Road prototype 4680 battery cell facility at Fremont. I uploaded the draft slides yesterday, but later broke it into two parts to keep the video length reasonable.

Here are highlights from today:
- The casting machine bridge crane is on site and they were preparing to install it onto the freshly completed railings in the casting machine structure ... high winds may prevent the use of cranes to lift it today, but they may figure out a way. I'll check back on the next video.
- The casting machine structure roof is nearly completely covered with concrete except for one square section, and this may be completed today.
- In the paint shop building, we see a lot of interior part assembly, including two "mezzanines" on the second floor, more assembled structures on the first floor, along with a lot of equipment and materials, and on the south side, we see two areas with what appears to be a raised "track" on the slab. I believe this is where the E-Coating system of tanks will be located, so perhaps we are seeing parts of a conveyor system being installed.
- I take a ground-level look onto the ground floor of the east Body-in-White structure to see what has happened to the "zipper pit" area. Although lighting was not ideal, we can see additional concrete forms and structures being constructed in the vicinity of the zipper pit and under the steel structure (ground floor).
- The west steel structure (now joined) is growing to the east now with more columns and beams being installed. In addition, more concrete flooring is being poured on the center-south area of the larger part of the structure this morning.
- The northwest battery cell area has gained even more footings, rebar and concrete in most of the footings, again, most likely attempting to get these poured as quickly as possible to get the concrete cured in time to begin vertical construction. The second excavation area (mirroring the first) is now about half dug out and work was ongoing at the time of the video. In addition, the northwest extension to the west perimeter grade beam is now being excavated, and this may include more loading docks, but we will have to wait and see how this area materializes.
- The electrical switchyard continues to progress as well, with more equipment arrivals, trenching and other activity this morning.
- finally, the worker parking areas were very full of cars this morning, and perhaps more than 750 to perhaps 1,000 workers were on site this morning.
