DECORAH EAGLES NORTH NEST
DN17 Hatched – 3/24/24, first seen @5:31 AM CT
DN18 Hatched - 3/25/24 @ 3:14 AM CT
DNF and Mr North will continue to brood both eaglets during the cold wet weather. When they are ready, first meals will be only a bite or three. The eaglets will learn to face the parents and grab bites as they gain coordination and eyesight improves. Both eaglets will likely not be fed at each meal. One will be full from last time or be sleeping. They may naturally battle over food. All very normal. With plenty of food and feedings happening often, the eaglets will soon establish a “pecking order” and learn to duck until the sibling has eaten and then grab bites. They will also learn to be “sneaky” and slip around each other to grab a quick bite. The new hatchlings with their thin natal down will need to be kept warm by the parents until its second, thermal down grows in about 10 days to two weeks.
