A 5 hr drive to the Carmel via i5 and 101 fwy to the Carmel Ranch Resort for the weekend was a perfect opportunity to get to the know the true potential of this full size SUV.
The reasons I was interested in reviewing this particular vehicle are:
6cyl 3.0 Turbo Diesel option rated at 20/27 4wd, so incredible MPG’s🙏
Air suspension (first time for Cadillac)
And SuperCruise ( Legal hand off steering wheel freeway driving) yes you read that right. HANDS FREE!
Best 29MPG was achieved on one fo my freeways trips and average was right around 20 to 22MPG. Worst was still an incredible 22.8MPG at a speed of 77mph with a head wind.
Great handling, comfortable ride but the air suspension still rides on regular springs so you don't get that Range Rover or GL/GLS feel form the ride. Engine noise is a little more than the wife's Range Rovers TD6 (diesel) but totally acceptable. I think it's very possible to achieve over 30 mpg on a long flat Hwy trip if you don't drive too fast. Since this is in the same class as our 100K Range Rover it's fair to say it's still not a Range Rover 🤷‍♂️ but if you need the extra room and want hands free driving (Super Cruise) combined with incredible MPG, this is your only option and it's pretty sweet.
