Volvo has launched their first fully electric vehicle, based on their popular subcompact luxury crossover. Our Spotlight is on the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 AWD.

This video was made possible with the support of Elmec and their EVduty Smart Home Charger. You can schedule, control access, and even see your estimated charging costs from the EVduty smartphone app. Use public charging stations and grant access to your own all from the app. For more information about the EVduty Smart Home Charger visit: https://www.elmec.ca/language/en/

We've been looking forward to trying out the Volvo XC40 Recharge for a while now. Our Ultimate AWD comes fully equipped in our market, although you need to spend an additional $150 for the heated steering wheel. This vehicle is equipped with two 201 hp motors, one to drive the front wheels and one to drive the rear wheels, along with a 78 kWh li-ion battery good for around 359 kms of all-electric driving. We go over some of the differences from the regular XC40 we drove earlier, along with how this compares to other electrics we've driven recently.

As a subcompact luxury crossover this is smaller than the recent Ford Mustang Mach-E we drove, and would be smaller than the Tesla Model Y. Priced at about $70,000.00 CAD this is the same price as the Mach-E but is rated for less range. We discuss how the XC40 Recharge performs on the road, along with how it worked overall in the colder fall climate we've been having here in Quebec over the past week.

We conduct several driving tests to determine our overall energy economy in different weather conditions and different driving styles. We also do some performance testing with this vehicle, and discuss how Volvo has decided to not to display the current range while driving or starting the vehicle, only providing a warning to the driver when you're at 50km or less of range remaining.

We also discuss our experiences with the new Android infotainment system Volvo has switched to, and how it works compared to the older Volvo system. Features like SiriusXM radio aren't present on our vehicle, not are Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. These features are supposed to be added down the road via over-the-air updates.
