In May, 1979, American Airlines Flight 191 was headed towards Los Angeles International Airport from Chicago O’Hare. The Douglas DC-10 plane was packed with 258 passengers.
Just a few seconds after take-off and only a few hundred feet in the air, the aircraft suddenly came crashing back down after one of its engines ripped off its left wing. The ensuing impact and explosion led to 273 deaths and the reason behind it shocked everyone.
