Did the sun set on Enggano's solar dream?
In 2014, solar panels and batteries were introduced to the serene shores of the western tip of Enggano Island, sparking hope and excitement among the villagers. The vision of clean, sustainable power seemed idyllic, but it didn't take long for challenges and mysteries to cloud this promising initiative.
Over the years, the solar power plant faced a turbulent journey. The continuous usage took a toll on the batteries, causing their capacity to decline, and raising doubts about the entire system's reliability.
As 2017 approached, the villagers found themselves at a critical juncture, faced with a decision to make. With the solar plant losing its luster, they had to explore alternative solutions to keep their lives illuminated.
It was then that a seemingly practical and cost-effective option emerged: electricity from a diesel power plant.
However, the shift toward diesel power raised questions. Was it solely a matter of necessity, or were there other factors influencing this decision?
