(30 Mar 2019) ALEXANDRA SHIPP BACKS GEORGE CLOONEY'S HOTEL BOYCOTT
Alexandra Shipp says "I'm behind George" on George Clooney's boycott of Brunei-linked hotels.
The 27-year-old star of the upcoming X-Men movie "Dark Phoenix" said she supports any effort to fight hatred.
"I boycott anything that has to do with hate. If you are projecting any type of hate for any -- or trying to force your religion or your world viewpoints on other people, you need to sit down and shut up. Because what I'm doing does not affect you. And so yeah – I'm behind George on that one," Shipp said in an interview on Friday (29 MARCH) in Anaheim, California, where she was promoting "Dark Phoenix" at the WonderCon expo.
Clooney is calling for the boycott of nine hotels in the U.S. and Europe with ties to the sultan of Brunei, which next month will implement Islamic criminal laws to punish gay sex by stoning offenders to death.
The hotels are The Dorchester and Coworth Park in the U.K.; Beverly Hills Hotel and Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles; Le Meurice and Hotel Plaza Athenee in Paris; Hotel Eden in Rome; and Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan.
The new laws take effect April 3.
