Rare Jeff Bezos Interview UNCOVERED | Amazon Founding Story and Culture

This video was sent to employees via email from the online shoe provider Zappos in 2009, after Amazon acquired the company for $1.2 billion.

At the time Jeff Bezos was not as popular as he is today and he had to explain about the company's founding story, its leadership principles and culture.

Zappos founder, Nick Swinmurn and the late CEO Tony Hsieh originally didn't want to sell the company to Amazon, and only agreed to meet with Jeff Bezos out of courtesy. Zappos wanted to keep its original culture of "delivering happiness" and work as independent company. Jeff Bezos agreed to this and initially offered cash for the company (as per its previous acquisitions). Zappos Management preferred stock as they looked at it more of a "marriage" and wanted employees to see that after the acquisition.
