In 2018, the WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, identified mental health as an area for which action should be accelerated. The result was the establishment of the WHO Special Initiative for Mental Health, covering the 5-year period 2019-2023. The Special Initiative is an ambitious programme aiming to ensure access to quality and affordable care for mental health conditions for 100 million more people by 2023. Following an inaugural meeting in Geneva in January 2020, work has begun in six countries: Bangladesh, Jordan, Paraguay, the Philippines, Ukraine and Zimbabwe. This video describes the Special Initiative and how it will be bringing better mental health and well-being to people across the world. More information
