30 kilometers from Cairo, the oldest known Egyptian necropolis is buried at the foot of the pyramid of Djoser. The 14th campaign of archaeological excavations which began in April 2004, under the direction of Christiane Ziegler, was to prove particularly fruitful for the entire team of the Department of Egyptian Antiquities of the Louvre Museum. But this vast project is also an experience shared with the Egyptian workers hired for this occasion.
