The idea behind intellectual humility is that no matter how much we learn, sometimes we can't fully grasp something as an individual. Therefore, we should be humble and refrain from dogmatism or harsh fighting over differences. The essay I, Pencil by Leonard E. Read describes the extremely complex and complicated situation that leads to the creation of a very simple object, a pencil. We probably encounter pencils everyday in our lives but don't think much of them. That being said, the process behind their creation requires the work and specialized knowledge of millions of people across the world.
