In the spring of 1866, the Cretans revolted once more. After battles in many areas, Turkish Army Commander Mustafa Pasha, with 15,000 men and 30 telescopes, moved against the Arkadi Monastery (Rethymnon Race Center) and on 7 November it was besieged from everywhere.

Inside the Monastery were 964 people. Fighters were only 259. Others were old men and women and children. Among them was the chieftain - heroine - Harikleia Daskalaki (Daskalakelena), daughter, wife and mother of warriors. Her father was killed in a previous revolution, her three sons were killed in the Revolution of that year (1866), and her husband was a descendant of Ethnomartiras Daskalogiannis.
