Porsche have finally launched the base model 992 Carrera. This model will probably be the version that sells the most units and like the Carrera S the base Carrera uses a 3-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six. The car develops peak power of 380bhp at 6500rpm and 332lb ft of torque available from 1950-5000rpm.

This is 64bhp down on the Carrera S, however 15bhp up on the previous gen Carrera. The only gearbox available at launch is Porsche's excellent eight-speed PDK dual clutch system sending the power directly to the rear wheels. The car weighs1,505kg, 55kg heavier than the last model 991. Not light but in line with Porsches role for this car, to be a GT in addition to being an out and out Sports car. The 0-62mph time is 4.2 seconds half a second off the Carrera S. Top speed is 182mph and the starting price is £82,793.

So onto the Macan Turbo priced at £68,530, some 20K more than the Macan S. The Turbo boasts 434bhp, which is fairly close to the previous model with performance pack. Whether there will be a performance with this Turbo remains to be seen.

The power increase comes courtesy of a new 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, replacing the old 3.6-litre unit and it is based on the engine found in the latest Cayenne and Panamera, with developments such as turbochargers mounted inside the ‘V’ of the cylinders. Torque claimed is 405lb ft, using a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch ‘box and all-wheel drive. Porsche quotes a 0-62mph time of 4.3sec. Top speed is 167mph.

However the 2019 Turbo isn’t just about straight-line speed. Equipment including ‘Porsche Surface Coated Brakes’, using a tungsten carbide disc coating to help reduce wear and brake dust, and improve response are provided as standard. Cost options on the Turbo includes height adjustable air suspension with revised pistons and shock absorber hydraulics, and Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus.

Porsche has pushed the performance envelope of the Cayenne SUV even further, with the unveiling of the Turbo S E-Hybrid version. Obviously based on the hardware already available on the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid though strangely not on sale since October last.

So this car has a 542bhp turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 mated to an electric motor producing an additional 134bhp giving a combined total of 671bhp, with 900Nm of torque. Power is sent to an all-wheel-drive system through an eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox.
ditionally Porsche say the turbo S is capable of running on electric power only for up to 25 miles and at speeds of up to 84mph.

Porsche Active Suspension Management incorporates adaptive dampers with a spread of settings, linked with standard three-chamber, adjustable-height air suspension. Additionally ceramic brakes are included as standard. These measure a 440mm in diameter at the front and 410mm at the rear. So Huge!

The starting Price is £123,349 before options.
