In this video I show you how to use spray paint to camouflage your hunting gear, but in this case, I'm painting a handgun. I'm painting it a desert camo, using a sponge and spray paint, but I'm not spraying the paint at all.

In the video you will see
- how to do it step by step
- things I tried and didn't work out and how I fixed them
- tips and advice to get started and through the process
- I explain the advantages and limitations of using a sponge

I didn't explain what I was using in details, because I have done it so many times, but here it is:
- to clean the surface: water, rubbing alcohol, cotton balls
- to prep the surface: scissors, masking tape to cover the areas you don't want painted. Also automotive primer for the metal parts. When you do this, tape over the plastic parts, those don't need priming, and then take off the paint, but make sure you leave them on for areas with markings, serial number, holes, et.
- for desert camo I would suggest 2 shades of beige, 1 brown (maybe 2) and 1 or 2 shades of green. I used 2 shades of beige, 2 green and 1 brown. However, you can make it more pain, and just use beige and brown, basically you're using earth tones. Just imagine yourself in the desert and not in the forest. It's more beige than brown or green. You don't even have to use green.
You can mix your paint, so if you want something darker, add brown or black, for lighter add yellow or white, no need to buy more paint. And one advantage I talk about is that you can use old paint for this, there is no need to run to the store and drop $40 for new paint. Just make sure it's not glossy or semi glossy.
You also need mate or satin or flat clear coat.
- sponge. My favorite is the regular yellow household sponge, but you can use any you like.
- Q tips or small paint brushes for the corners and crevices.
- if you're going to use stencils, I suggest getting or making stickers. Things like natural plants or netting or yarn or anything like that will not work, because they're too thick and the sponge won't go through the.

I didn't mention this in the video, but there is two ways to do this:
What I did:
- add the other colors, such as brown or green first, and then partially cover them with beige, in this case they will "peek through". You can make them subtle and smudged and hardly there like I did or more defined and sharp.
- you can also add the beige first and then add the other colors on top.
Either way will work and either way you will go over them several times with more paint to make it look fuller and not so plain. How full, it's up to you.
