When it comes to driving the Austral, Renault relies entirely on hybrids and offers a 4-cylinder 1.3 L 160 hp turbo petrol engine with 12-volt mild hybrid drive from CHF 37,600 and an E-Tech full hybrid, consisting of 2 electric motors in combination with a 3-cylinder 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine, the aggregates of which have a combined output of 200 hp, from a price of CHF 41,100. The optionally available multi-link rear axle for the models with 4CONTROL Advanced four-wheel steering ensures additional steering precision, improved cornering behavior and a small turning circle of 10.1 m for the best manoeuvrability.

The mild hybrid is based on a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine that develops 160 hp and is supported by a starter-generator with a 12-volt lithium-ion battery. It is characterized by an improved stop-start system, which now also switches off the engine and recuperates energy when the X-Tronic automatic transmission is decelerating.

The full hybrid offers the highest level of driving efficiency with market-leading responsiveness, which is confirmed by the acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. The regenerative braking system, which is automatically activated when decelerating and braking, in conjunction with the high 2 kWh capacity of the lithium-ion battery, ensures self-charging and the efficiency of the E-Tech system with optimum consumption (from 4.6 l/ 100 km and 105 g CO2/km This means that the New Austral can drive up to 80% of the time in city traffic fully electric, which corresponds to a consumption reduction of 40% compared to a petrol engine for the same driving style. As with the first generation of the E-Tech hybrid motors, the vehicle uses the immediately available torque and always starts in fully electric mode, to offer a driving experience unique to electric cars, silent and responsive. The intelligent gearbox automatically switches between the electric motor and the combustion engine to ensure agile propulsion while controlling consumption. In this new E-TECH generation, it is possible for the first time to drive fully electrically at speeds of up to 130 km/h.

With its 32 driving assistance systems, it ensures the best active and passive safety, supplemented by the autonomous emergency braking at the rear or the rear wishbone warning or the Occupant Save-Exit exit warning on the door.
