If you're flying from an EU airport or on an EU-based airline you're entitled to free assistance if your flight is due to arrive at its destination more than two hours late. This includes phone calls and free meals and drinks.

- If you have to wait overnight you are entitled to free accommodation and airport transfers.

- For delays of three hours or more you're entitled to up to €400 in compensation, plus free assistance, as long as the delay has not been caused by extraordinary circumstances.

- For delays of four hours or more, you're entitled to up to €600 in compensation plus free assistance.

- For delays of five hours or more, you're entitled to be re-routed on a different flight or refunded.
