A discussion of the test for reducing sugars, both qualitative and quantitative. The Benedict's test can be used to determine the presence of a reducing sugar. Heating the reagent with the solution of reducing sugar produces a red precipitate. The extent of colour change can be used to qualitatively compare the concentration of reducing sugar, as well as quantitatively determine the concentration using colorimetry.
