1. Christ’s Seek and Destroy Mission
A. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil
1. Those works are clearly sin
B. Piper says, “Christmas is God's invasion of enemy territory to rescue a people from the devil and destroy the sin in their lives.”
C. Salvation is our delivery from sin
1. Justification – Freedom from the penalty of sin
2. Sanctification – Freedom from the power of sin
3. Glorification – Freedom from the presence of sin
2. We Join in Christ’s Victory through the New Birth
A. The choice is clear – we can either be children of God or children of the devil
B. We can join in Christ’s victory by repenting of our sins and putting our faith in Him
1. We will get victory for all eternity if we are born again!
3. We Demonstrate Christ’s Victory by Walking in Obedience
A. This passage doesn’t imply that you will never sin if you are a child of God
1. Instead, it is talking about how people who show bear no fruit and are living in habitual, unrepentant sin reveal themselves to be lost
B. One of the most powerful apologetics we have is to consistently walk with the LORD
1. This can only be done through the power of the gospel and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit
