Chevrolet’s Traverse gets completely redesigned for 2018 to offer a very spacious, stylish option to those who need 3 rows of seating in a midsize SUV. A sporty new RS trim with a smaller engine and a meaner-looking grille and a new flagship High Country trim with all-wheel drive, every available factory upgrade, and an exclusive brown-and-black leather interior join the lineup, and all versions support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to including the Teen Driver system.

A 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder with 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque powers the RS and gets EPA estimates of 20 mpg city, 26 highway. All other Traverses use a more powerful version of last year’s 3.6-liter V6, now with 305 hp and 260 lb-ft and estimates of 18 mpg city, 25 highway with front-wheel drive. Reviewer Chris Wardlaw managed to beat those estimates over a week of driving, and he calls the Traverse the best 3-row option for anyone who doesn’t need the towing capacity of the more expensive Tahoe.
