A little about the artwork I do in this video: Firstly, I’m old and overthink stuff a lot, so safety was covered - don’t just run up on tidal beaches and start doing things without checking. As for the work, the piece of public art is part of a practice that I’ve had for awhile now. In terms of my ethical concerns in making this piece - I was keen to source glue that was as non-toxic as possible (this glue can be used in ‘food safe’ areas & and also stands in quite a small group of being largely recyclable in packaging). In regards toxicity, I made sure to confirm that my practice would have a ridiculously small impact on the river, being that there are lots of commercial/industrial level operations that treat the thames as a waste pipe (I obviously don’t agree with this, but would not put any type of glue in a smaller river). I also did a walk of the beach previously, in order to make sure there were other hard, tile like, materials on the river bed (of which there are many). As I said in the video, I care deeply about public art, and the value of things sitting within the landscape that represent individual expression - so with the above laid out - I signed the project off my side. My business email is [email protected] if you have some level of official concerns with any of this further, please get in touch.
