Let's dive right into today's video. One of the main questions I get asked just from friends and passing in the magic circle is What's your favorite trick? Now that's a loaded question, because each trick is better for each situation.

But let's start with close up magic. I do have a couple favorite tricks that are my go to for close up magic. I can't limit it to one, but if I had to limit it to two, it would be these two.

So I think the best way to show you is to actually just show you two fold mental photography and immaculate connection by Paul Harris. Let me start with a mental photography. I'm not going to do the whole routine, but I'm going to give you a breakdown of essentially what it looks like and why I love it so much. So "Mental photography" is, in its essence, a blank deck which you can very freely show with one snap. It will print, and now the entire deck is printed. OK. So in a nutshell, that is mental photography. You can wave over and it goes to blank once again. All right. Now, obviously that isn't the full routine, but that's it in its essence. I think it's one of the strongest opening tricks for a few reasons. You don't have to say anything. You can just show a blank deck, make eye contact, let people know that, Hey, I see you like that great. They start printing. Inherently, it's magical, right? People know playing cards. They see a blank deck go from blank to print it without a word being said. That's a magical moment, and it's a great way for you to introduce yourself as a magician without having to say anything.

Let's say you're in a loud environment. Another reason I love it is because of the simplicity of the effect blank to print it. There's not a lot for them to think about. They can sit there and just watch and enjoy the magic.
It's a really, really powerful piece of magic that if you're not doing in your close up magic, I would highly, highly recommend. one of my favorite routines to learn it from is Bill Malone's "On the loose".

He's got a great routine with the mental photography deck, but you can learn it in a lot of different places. As a matter of fact, soon at vote buying creations, we're going to have an entire project on the mental photography deck and it's all of my takes.

When I did the Magic Castle a few years back, I did the Close-Up Room and my opener for the Close-Up Room was a sit down version of the mental photography deck. So it's not limited to just a stand up, sprawling version. You can also get some really pretty magic out of the US, the sit down version of it as well. If I had to say my all time favorite like the thing I do the most piece of close up magic, it's probably mental photography.

All right. So I highly recommend looking into that. And if you don't do it, maybe you should start. second is called Immaculate Connection by Paul Harris. Very, very cool trick doesn't take a lot of mental space for them. You're talking throughout the whole thing. Again, it's another thing where they get to just sit back, relax and watch. And it's also got a little bit of a sucker ending to it, right?

A little sucker gag in there, and you're holding the card and saying, Oh, you know, not repeat anywhere. They're going, Yeah, it's ripped under your finger. So they think they know the method and then you eliminate what they thought.

Again, that's why Paul Harris out of the art of astonishment. So those are my two favorite Close-Up pieces of magic. I understand that they're both with cards, but I'm definitely more of a card guy.

So if you had to say if I had to say over the last 30 years of being a professional magician, what are my go to close up pieces of magic? It's the mental photography deck and immaculate connection by Paul Harris.
