🎥 All the fighting from the beach to St-Lo in Normandy was in the hedgerow country and it was well into July before we got to St-Lo. We had to take these hedgerows one at a time; sometimes you were one side of the hedge, and the Germans were on the other and you can hear them talking. But finally we made it to St-Lo, but the losses had been heavy and we were really shot up. Some of the men coming in, the replacements, had not much training, just the usual basic training and sent right over, and these men were at a great disadvantage in that country...
