_____
Whereas Black people in America face a serious economic problem, and Whereas this problem is a direct result of Black people being solely dependent upon others for their economic existence, and Whereas it is recognized that this problem has existed for the last 400 years since Black people were brought to America against their will, and Whereas the body, the mind, and the spirit of Black people have been taken, given, and spent toward building and adding to the civilization of another people, and Whereas Black people no longer desire to be simply consumers, dependent upon others for food, clothing, shelter, education, and employment; now Therefore be it resolved that We are: 1. People Organized and Working for Economic Rebirth. 2. organized for the absolUte purpose of restoring Black people in America to their original industrial and commercial greatness. 3. Pledged to spend more of our dollars within our own Black community for both goods and services administered and owned by Black people. 4. Committed to building a Black economy so that Black people become self-sufficient in the production of food, clothing, shelter, health care, education, employment and banking. 5. Advocating a value system where money is only a means toward an end and not an end in itself, and where all Black people will share in the organizational returns in direct relationship to their participation. 6. Determined that this objective be righteous and just, and that it provide freedom and equality of opportunity for all Black people regardless of religion, education or financial status. 7. Resolute that our financial base will be the support of the Black community through its participation in an economic system that rewards both the producer and consumer. First and fore-most, for our development to be successful, we must depend upon our own Black selves and our own Black resources.
