Forced displacement is a persistent global challenge that requires international cooperation and sustained leadership to address it. The number of people forcibly displaced by conflicts, persecution, violence, and other human rights abuses has more than tripled from 33.9 million people in 1997 to at least 110 million people in mid-2023. This forced displacement trend is likely to worsen in the years ahead unless something is done to reverse it. The Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative (RAFDI) Working Group Report, “US Leadership Matters in Addressing Forced Displacement Crisis,” seeks to provide guidance and actionable recommendations for the US government and other actors on ways to protect, assist, and find sustainable solutions for refugees and other displaced people. The report identifies six major policy and programming issues that require effective US leadership, consistent global response, and multilateral collaboration.

Join the Wilson Center on April 25, 2024, for the launch of RAFDI Working Group Report. Speakers will present the report highlights and recommendations and discuss what must be done to ease pressure on host countries and expand access to solution pathways for refugees and other displaced people.
