Hi guys,

I just got my own BMPCC6K with a Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS.
We went out and (of course) did some testing. I was surprised at how nice the Canon lens actually looks. Of course i will do some more testing and an in depth video about the 17-55 – but so far: the image quality is really nice. Compared to the Sigma 18-35 it is less sharp (but still really sharp), less contrasty (maybe a little too much in direct sunlight), has nicer, warmer colors and a lot more flaring. All those things are characteristics which I would consider to be good, but that's down to individual taste, so see for yourself. The bokeh is really nice and smooth as well. Also, the backround separation is (and i was concerned about that because it is "only" a 2.8.) very good. It tends to be the sharpest all the way at 55mm and the other way around.

All the shots were recorded in BRAW 8:1, no NR or stabilization in post. I noticed, that in some shots which were recorded in high DR situations (when i pushed the shadows and exposed for the highlights), there is some noticeable noice. But as I said, that could be fixed with some NR. For some shots I used a K&F Concept ND without an IR cut filter. I ordered the one from NiSi, which has an IR cut built in, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll probably do a video on that filter too, once it is here.

Another thing i noticed is the red clipping. I pushed the reds down in a curve, but if I pushed the saturation of the whole image up in the lumetri panel, the models camera strap (which is red) would clip. This is a thing Blackmagic promised to repair with the Gen 5 color science, but I did not update my camera to the newest version yet. So we'll see :) I am planning on publishing videos regularly and try to keep you updated.

Everything was graded in Premiere using Matteo Bertolis Buttery Luts.

If you have any questions, let me know!
Cheers, Max
