There is actually a dark plot hidden in plain sight. When fairytale creatures are being rounded up, we see Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Baby Bear from the story of Goldilocks. When we see Papa Bear and Baby Bear in Shrek’s swamp, Papa Bear seems to be comforting the youngster. Mama Bear is also surprisingly not present. Later in Lord Farquaad’s bedroom, we see a bear skinned and turned into a rug who resembles Mama Bear’s earlier appearance. It seems that this confirms. Mama Bear’s fate.
