When faced with setbacks, have you ever thought about quitting and lying flat? When you see challenges and chances, will you join the rat race and try your best? After the struggle between these two for so many years, when I experienced a failure in my interview, I read a book 《Seasons of Life》 written by Jim Rohn and finally found three secret ingredients to the balance of lying flat and rat race.
Secret Ingredient, No.1, when you are in the winter of your life, tell yourself it’s ok to lie flat, you need time to breathe.
Secret Ingredient, No.2, when you are in the spring of your life, it’s time for your seed to sprout. You need to have the courage to get out of your comfort zone and seize the opportunity.
Secret Ingredient, No.3, when you are in the summer of your life, don’t pretend to work hard because the result won't lie.
This is the wisdom I learned after so many years of suffering and struggling. Whereas, you already know this in your teens. You are much younger than me and you have more chances to become somebody than me. Whereas getting older comes fast, it’s time to make a choice.
Sherry is a teaching assistant in NKCS, what is not average about her is her struggle in improving herself. She likes English but her college entrance exam score wasn’t good enough for her to major in English. However, she didn’t give up, in the university, she kept studying English and when she graduated, she worked as an English teacher in Web International English and WSE for 7 years. For the recent three years, she has focused on public speaking. After taking part in the competition twice, she decided to organize her own public speaking workshop, which helps other to improve public speaking skills.
She chose the continuous struggle instead of lying flat. She failed many times, but she always stands up. If you are like her, she will tell you how she deals with different choices and never gives in to defeat. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
