with Saad ibn Sabah

Laam Of Emphasis / Inna + La combination


*Today's topic - Inna + La*

Yesterday we learnt that Inna shows it's effect on any of ism in the sentence.

That the ism upon which the effect is seen (ism turned into Case 2) is emphasised in the sentence.

But now,
Even though it may sound strange for English,

In Arabic it is possible to add double or triple degree of emphasis on an ism.

What it means is...

Indeed he is Allah

Indeed! indeed! he is Allah

This is where we learn the combination of Inna and La لَ

Inna Saadan Tayyibun

Indeed *Saad* is good

Saad is in case 2,

So effect of Inna is shown on saad

Then, it is also possible to say,

Inna LaSaadan Tayyibun

Indeed, Indeed Saad is good


The effect of Inna is falling on Saad, and the effect becomes double with the use of La on Saad as well

اِنَّ لَسَعدًا طَيَّبٌ

Inna LaSaadan Tayyibun


This double emphasis is very common in Quran


Now this Inna + La combination can be used in another way too


What if I want to put effect on Inna on both Saad and Good

Indeed Saad is good

I want to emphasise both Saad as well as good


For that we simple write it like this,

Inna Saadan LaTayyibun

Or

Inna LaSaadun Tayyiban


You noticed?

In this we divided the effect of Inna (case 2) on one ism, and put La on another ism..

So both Saad and Good is emphasised

One final thing about this Inna + La combination

La/Li = For (Harf of Case 3)

So if, you find a "La"

And the next ism is in Case 3,
Then this La means For

And if La is followed by Case 2 or Case 2, then this La must be in combination with Inna.

(La is also used with Verbs and then it has different meaning)

Sorry, one more last thing needs to be told

Indeed, indeed Saad is in house

Inna Saadan *La Fi Baytin*

It will not be

Inna Saadan *Fi La Baytin*

Means... When there is a preposition before an ism... Then La has to be used before preposition.

Why?

Because, if it was,

Inna Saadan Fi La Baytin

How would you know whether this La means For or it's the La of Inna?

Because Baytin is case 3.

How are we gonna know if Baytin is in case 3 under the effect of Fi or La?

So it remove this confusion, grammar simply puts

Inna + ism + La + Preposition + Ism
