Short Film: Ready
Written and Directed by: Debbie Yen
Produced by: Jared Lundy
Cast: Eunice Kiss, Ben Wang, Christopher Watson, Jon Sprik

A mentally-ill woman has trouble living in the present after running into her past and is faced with the task of forgiving and loving the one person who has let her down the most: herself.

In a hardcore reality, Evelyn tries to keep up with her life balancing work, family, and her mental health. The story begins in a modest bakery, while she purchases a personalized
birthday cake. Gradually, we become aware of Evelyn’s dilemma: a troubled past and anxious
memories about her ex-partner are triggered by a sudden an almost surreal encounter at the
shop. While trying not to lose her mind, Evelyn storms into her torturous flashbacks of painful
memories from the past, hearing the voices in her head as a reminder of her constant brawl.

Her one and only pilar, her father, encourages her to open up with him until we grasp at her
thoughts and fears embodied in her bedroom, at her father’s house, where she currently lives.
Evelyn meets her newest neighbor, Adam, who seems to be interested in her. With a strong
will, she tries to move on yet she avoids her neighbor in midst of her fear and anguish, trying to
solve her inner voice.

In this shattering film, we witness Evelyn’s dreadful insights and core thoughts to the greatest
end, exceptionally supported by great editing that gives us glimpses of her past and present
struggles. How the photos become portals and create underestimated dependencies. In her
tough journey, Evelyn faces drugs and depression while we learn about her deepest relation
with herself, questioning who we are and what defines us in the darkest of times.
Only until she is able to forgive herself, make the choice, overcome the past, her duel is now
yesterday and she is ready to move on with the new chapter in her life
