The Toyota GR Corolla is a simple recipe on the surface: Take a knockout engine, mate it to a brilliant do-it-yourself gearbox, add a brand-new all-wheel drive system, and then stick a family hatch body on top. This is the exact same concoction that's given us the Volkswagen Golf R and Honda Civic Type R, both cars deserving of the high praises they've garnered.

But we argue that the GR Corolla does what the VW and Honda cannot – offer the thrills and engagement without compromising on daily usability. The GR Corolla is a masterclass in automotive engineering and in this review, we are humble students.
