In this video I decided to used two different Rapitest pH tests from Luster Leaf on my lawn side-by-side.. in fact I did both tests three different times so I could average them out and compare the pH test kit to the pH meter to see the difference.

I firmly believe that the meter is easier and quicker to use but not nearly as accurate. Off camera I did use the meter on a bowl full of coconut coir which is supposed to be pH neutral and I did come back at 7.0 so the meter isn't terrible but I just trust the pH test kit a bit more.

Neither of these solutions is a replacement for a full soil test (analysis) but they do offer cheap and simple ways to test pH without having to go sending dirt through the mail. These are also usually findable in local big box stores all over the place for very small amounts of money which makes them an attractive purchase for most people who care about their lawns.

If you want to do a full soil analysis then your results will be more accurate and you'll get a lot more info back.
