What’s it like to sleep inside of an active volcano, or ski down the slopes of what is basically a massive, lava-spewing pyramid? You’re about to find out. We travel from Mount Etna in Sicily to Ecuador’s Cayambe to Indonesia’s Kawah Ijen to explore volcanoes with adventurers and scientists who can’t keep their distance from these natural wonders. There’s also a stop in Buffalo, New York, where researchers from the University of Buffalo’s Center for Geohazards Studies are making their own lava because, well, there aren’t any volcanoes in Buffalo.
