This is the third car from Mazda that uses SKYACTIV technology which is a big blanket term covering the whole holistic approach Mazda uses to build cars. It's very rare for a car to be totally designed at the same time, usually the body, chassis, and engine components are developed as different projects then pieced together like legos. By designing the systems at the same time, the engineers at Mazda were able to get a good synergy going that results in a great driving car.

The steering system is a good example of vehicle synergy. The 2014 Mazda3 uses an electric power steering system to improve the fuel efficiency. Mazda set-up the suspension and steering geometry to enhance and give back good steering feedback.

The Mazda3 uses a 4-2-1 race header on the back of the engine. The reason is the headers lower the engine combustion chamber temperatures down with allows for a higher compression ratio to be run.

Another very unusual feature is the way Mazda makes the 2.5 liter and 2.0 liter engine. Both engines are built in a very modern factory that gives a very flexible design. The engines are practically unique to themselves. This allows for the most efficient combustion process.

The key thing is that with all the technology that goes into the 2014 Mazda3 not only increases fuel economy but also enhances driving performance.
