Tension! : US Military Spread 85,000 Troops Behind China's Defense Line after China Harass Taiwan
This exercise is a response to the growing power of China, which has been identified as a long-term strategic competitor of the United States in the National Defense Strategy. The strategy highlights that great power competition, rather than counterterrorism, will drive the Defense Department's decision-making and force structure.
Currently, the US Army has 85,000 troops stationed permanently in the Indo-Pacific region and is already conducting exercises with allies and partners, such as Pacific Pathways. However, the Army is aiming to practice rapid deployment from the continental United States to the Pacific.
