Prepare for your colonoscopy with Sanjay Sandhir, MD, Board Certified Gastroenterologist, and Carol H., RN, from Dayton Gastroenterology.

Colorectal Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, but it's the only cancer we can prevent. Detection and prevention are the best way to beat colorectal cancer.

A colonoscopy is a procedure that uses a colonoscope through which your doctor can view the inside of your colon. The colonoscope is a thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera on it that also allows your doctor to remove polyps from your colon. Your doctor has the best chance of finding polyps when you have done the preparation as effectively as possible, in order to empty your colon.

Your doctor has prescribed the MiraLax Split Preparation for your colonoscopy procedure. This is the prep medication you will drink beforehand, along with clear liquids from the "clear liquid diet."

Follow the instructions for the split prep in order to prepare your colon for your colonoscopy. You will do most of your prep in the afternoon or evening, and then finish the prep first thing in the morning. The prep must be finished 4 hours prior to your appointment.

Please follow the specific instructions given to you for your procedure in order to effectively prepare for your colonoscopy.
