Search and rescue robots won’t be rendering human first responders obsolete anytime soon, but the hope is that these new technologies will assist in saving more lives while protecting first responders from unnecessary harm.
Beyond gathering disaster surveillance data via a firefighting drone, humanoid robots, snake, and spider robots are also being developed. These bots can lift heavy objects, crawl through rugged terrain, slither through tight spaces, and climb challenging structures.
