Sugar ants can be a problem in many homes and other properties during the spring and summer months. When they detect sugary substances, they’ll make their way into structures through small cracks, crevices, and voids that most homeowners would not be aware of. Sugar ants aren’t immediately dangerous, but large infestations call for control. Not all species will respond to the same products.

In the US, “sugar ant” is a colloquial term used to describe different species of ants. When a homeowner says they’ve got a sugar ant infestation, they usually have one of several different kinds.

After you’ve identified what species of ant you’re infested with, it’s time to start treatment. Before starting any treatment, be sure to wear your personal protective equipment or PPE.
