This is the 7th live-action adaptation of Batman, since 1966. And as with all great Batmans, a great theme must accompany him. As far as I’m concerned, every Batman theme has been excellent, and fitting for its respective hero. But with the exception of some loose motifs for the Dark Knight Trilogy (2005-2012), no clear Bruce Wayne theme has existed until now.

Michael Giacchino returns to the superhero world, this time taking on Batman. He writes a sad, yet hopeful and regal theme for Bruce Wayne. This is perfect given his characterisation in the film. Bruce is a deeply sad and remorseful person, coming from an almost royal background, who by the end of the film has found a new, hopeful purpose.

The orchestration is a little bit repetitive in this film, and I hope to hear more variations of it in the future.
