President Obama meets with Monique Thorpe, an African American History teacher at South Shore International High School. Like most teachers across the country, she’s navigating another challenging school year after recently transitioning back into the classroom.

Last month, Monique led a virtual classroom exchange with youth from South Shore International High School and youth from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During the virtual gathering, the Obama Foundation shared the vision for the Obama Presidential Center to the classrooms and discussed the role of civic engagement.
