The Air Jordan 10, also known as the AJ X, was released by Nike in 1994. This particular release marked a significant point in Michael Jordan's career as both a basketball player and a brand ambassador.

By the time the Air Jordan 10 was released, Michael Jordan had already achieved remarkable success on the basketball court. He had won multiple NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and had solidified his status as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. However, during the initial release of the Air Jordan 10, Jordan was in the midst of his first retirement from professional basketball.

Michael Jordan shocked the sports world when he announced his retirement from basketball in October 1993. This decision came shortly after leading the Chicago Bulls to their third consecutive NBA championship in June 1993. His retirement was fueled by personal reasons and a desire to pursue a career in professional baseball, which had been a childhood dream of his father.

During Jordan's hiatus from basketball, Nike continued to release new Air Jordan models, including the Air Jordan 10 in early 1994. The AJ X was unique among the Air Jordan line as it featured a design highlighting Michael Jordan's career achievements up to that point. The outsole of the shoe included a list of Jordan's career accomplishments, such as scoring titles, MVP awards, and NBA championships.

While Jordan was not actively playing basketball at the time of the Air Jordan 10 release, the shoe still garnered significant attention due to his iconic status and the success of the Air Jordan line. The release demonstrated the enduring popularity of the Air Jordan brand and Michael Jordan's impact on the world of sports and fashion, even during his temporary retirement from the NBA.

It's important to note that Michael Jordan returned to professional basketball in March 1995, rejoining the Chicago Bulls and eventually leading them to three more NBA championships. The Air Jordan 10, therefore, became associated with the latter part of Jordan's first retirement and the anticipation of his eventual return to the basketball court.
