Day 18!! Today’s video is just the 18, we did 17 miles over beautiful passes but through very rocky terrain. So it was a mix of emotions because I had a beautiful scenery but my feet and ankles hurt at the end of the day. Newt did such a great job but the ruffwear booties i bought him in Breckenridge rubbed on his legs pretty bad. So there were a few miles where I ended up carrying him because he didn’t want to wear his boots. Adding an extra 40 pounds to my back was hard, but that is something that I told myself I would do if he needed help. I have seen dogs on the trail before whose paws were so torn up that they couldn’t walk for days, and I promised myself that I would take care of Newt no matter what. And that is the reason that I got a smaller dog, in case needed to carry him.  that’s also the reason that I started carrying him on my shoulders as a puppy so he would get used to it and be comfortable. I think at one point he might’ve started drooling down my neck because he was asleep. 🤣🤣 We ended up camping near tincup pass, and Newt actually got sick that night. I’m not sure what he got into but he had diarrhea all night and woke me up probably four or five times to go outside. On the positive side though, i got to see the stars while he was doing his thing. So very bright and beautiful. If i hadn’t been so tired i would have attempted to get a Timelapse or photos of the Milky Way..but i was exhausted and didn’t. 🤣
