One of the big mistakes I see lItigants in person making is focusing on a whole number of issues in their case, throwing the kitchen sink at their opponent, and so missing what the real issues are. Failing to identifying the issues - and there are often only one or two that are really in dispute - leads to poor preparation on the proceedings themselves and loses you valuable court time. It is also critical, of course, when it comes to preparing your pleadings (statements of case).

Identifying issues is like using the cross-hairs in a gun. If you don't line up the sights properly you end up wasting a lot of bullets and risk missing the target.
