In this UCSF Department of Medicine Covid-19 Medical Grand Rounds, we begin with an update on the state of the pandemic by George Rutherford. We’ll consider the current state of regional surges, as well as the dire situation in India. Then we will turn to the unique challenges of patients whose immune system is suppressed by virtue of disease or treatments. What are their risks? Do the vaccines work? Do they need to be tested for vaccine efficacy? Do they need to be more careful than people with normal immune systems, both before and after vaccination? Speakers include rheumatologist Lianne Gensler, oncologist Shagun Arora, and infectious disease specialist Brian Schwartz. The session is moderated by UCSF Department of Medicine Chair Bob Wachter.
