In the years since the debut of Kung Fu Panda in 2008, it’s managed to become one of the most popular and successful animated film franchises of all time, with the first Kung Fu Panda bringing in 631 million dollars worldwide at the box office and being the 3rd highest grossing film of 2008, the sequel bringing in 665 million worldwide and being the 6th highest grossing film of 2011, and the third installment bringing in 521 million and ranking 16th in worldwide gross for 2016. The franchise also spawned 4 shorts and 3 TV series, combining for a total of 8 seasons and 146 episodes, with the most recent of them coming out in September of last year, but we won’t be covering any of these shorts or episodes in our recap here, since they aren’t essential viewing for the new movie hitting theaters on March 8th, just over 8 years since the franchise’s last theatrical installment.
