“ ’Mourning Dove’ for Trombone and Piano was inspired by an incident I witnessed in our backyard. One day, an adorable baby mourning dove who was too young to fly fell into our backyard. I thought he would surely die, but the mother dove showed up and sat beside him for three days, even through a storm. After three days, they both flew away. This piece is about the struggle, perseverance, hope, love, encouragement, and final victory that I saw in the mom/baby dove duo” - Megumi Kanda
